When I finally sat down to read A Shock To Your System, I couldn't put it down. Lovers and betrayal. Running for their lives. Not knowing who to trust or if there is hope in their future. All this set in an interesting world where some have powers and most don't. There are the hunters and the hunted, two opposite ends that should never meet - Yet they do and stick in Jamie and Ethan.
Jamie did a simple mistake. Well, simple for him. He lost control of his ability and caused two city blocks to go dark. From there it snowballed. His lover Ethan betrayed him in the darkest possible way. Despite that Jamie doesn't give up, the two work together and find resolve and a hope.
Ethan and Jamie are forced to break social norms and strike out on their own. Of course their lives change. This is a twisted society and they see it first hand. Prejudice is alive and well. Alliances and trust take time. The story ends on whether the two will be accepted and trusted and nothing more on Ethan's sister. Not quite a cliff hanger but close. - Dan's Wife
A Shock to Your System is the second novel in the Dangerous Creatures series by Mandy Rosko.
Jamie Holland is a paranormal just like his best friend Cindy and when she goes missing he gets scared, nervous, and accidentally takes out the power of an entire city block. This catches the eye of a paranormal hunter, Ethan Frost. The worst part is that when Jamie finally sees the man that has been chasing him he realizes that he has been dating and even, maybe, falling in love with him. This is not just a surprise to him, Ethan is just as surprised and after Jamie saves his life Ethan has a hard time turning him in. This leaves them both on a run for their lives and also searching for Jamie’s sister. Can they work together and get to safety or will the hunters find them first?
Another fast paced novel that I was glued to from the beginning. Loved these two guys and the love connection they have with each other. I am really starting to like this new series, it is defiantly a new twist to the paranormal world and she is laying it out perfectly. There seem to be many more stories in the future and I for one will be reading them.
This novel is well and vividly written. The pages are fraught with suspense from the very beginning. The action intensive plot kept the story moving forward at a brisk pace. Rosko’s writing is simultaneously fun and hot. Her vibrant descriptions bring everything to life, while the action and heat of the story kept me glued to the pages. This novel picks up right where the last novel left off, yet could still easily be read as a standalone. It’s the perfect merger.
Rosko fills her novel with unique paranormals, both good and bad. I enjoy the way that she develops their various powers. At the same time, I would like to have known more about the division between humans and paranormals. Rosko alludes to it, yet never comes out and spells it out for readers.
The main characters in this novel are a pair of star cross lovers that I desperately WANTED to see succeed. Both were such nice people, who really cared more about each other than themselves. The real caring, along with the electric chemistry between them has earned them a place in my heart.
I also enjoyed how Rosko ends this novel with a lead up to the sequel, while also giving a sense of completion to the story at hand. I am still dying to read the next novel, yet content with the knowledge that the current leading couple are on their way to a HEA.

Three and a half
Well if you are the sort who enjoys an almost X Men situation then this series might interest you. A world were those who are outed as paranormals are hunted down , imprisoned and studied but you just know that corruption and prejudice means there's cruelty often in play.
So this the second book features Cindys friend Jamie, a young man with what I could describe as an electric touch! Slight problem though as his feelings got the better of him when Cindy was recently captured and now he's being hunted! Oh and did I mention it's his ex lover Ethan after him? Yes it's fair to say that Jamie may have felt more than a spark of something for Ethan but right now they are both in a highly charged and dangerous situation !
I much preferred this to the first book even though I'm not someone who normally reads M/M romance stories. I particularly enjoyed seeing the world here extended as more is revealed about the Hunters and the unfortunate paranormals on their radar. What ramped up the tension for this reader was realising that Ethan has not one paranormal problem to deal with but two! No spoilers but the next book should be pretty interesting indeed. Just one thing to add really and that's the fact that evil and hatred begets the same sometimes and with amazing and scary abilities these paranormals are not helpless!
